The salt path: on the footsteps of white gold…

Discover the fabulous history of salt by following the path of a larch wood “saumoduc”! A pilgrimage which will lead you from the very first source of salt discovered in Switzerland six centuries ago to that antique salt mine of Dévens, where brine was evaporated opposite of the Dents du Midi in order to extract the precious condiment.

The salt road will make you relive an incredible saga, marked by famines, conquests and revolts. You will meet kings and smugglers, explorers and mercenaries, miners and men of knowledge, the devil, ogres and witches. You will see written in the heart of the mountain the titanic work generated by the whilte gold rush…

Sandrina Cirafici : Archeologist and keeper of the History Museum of the Chablais, in Bex. Her task is to bring the salt path back to life, its forgotten history is inscribed in the landscapes between Ollon and Bex.
